Samsung ends 'patent war', withdraws bid to ban Apple devices in Europe

South Korean mobile maker Samsung has withdrawn its bid to get Apple devices banned in Europe.

The move by the firm marked a dramatic cooling of the 'patent wars' that have been waged between the two tech giants since the launch of the iPhone.

Samsung made its decision shortly after Apple lost its own campaign to get 26 Samsung products banned from sale in America, despite winning an earlier patent infringement case.

According to the Telegraph, Samsung claimed it was abandoning its requests for injunctions in the UK, France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands "in the interest of protecting consumer choice".

"We strongly believe it is better when companies compete fairly in the marketplace, rather than in court," the firm said.
