Since Windows 98, “general public” versions of Windows are sold on optical media, such are CD (98, Me, XP) or a DVD (Windows Vista and Windows 7). Windows 8 is no exception to the rule and will also be marketed as a DVD. If you have a laptop that has no optical drive, the Windows 8 installation disc is unusable. To install Windows 8 on your laptop without optical drive you will need to use a USB drive.
On computers that have a optical drive/CD/DVD burner, this operation also offers a significant advantage: a USB drive is faster than an optical disc. By installing Windows 8 from a USB stick you can save precious minutes while installing Windows. In my case, installation from a USB drive lasted about fifteen minutes, against thirty minutes from the original DVD. Finally, if the Windows 8 DVD damaged and become unusable, while this is not the case with the USB drive, which is much more reliable and durable.
So as you can notice the Windows 8 installation from a USB stick is a very interesting solution. Note that for this operation you will need to have a USB drive with at least 4 GB space.
