Sony is expected to officially announce the Xperia Z and ZL smartphones at an event on March 6 and prior to the announcement, both the smartphones have made their way to the popular online retail site Flipkart. The White variant of the Xperia Z is available on pre-order for Rs. 38,990 (inclusive of taxes). The availability details on Flipkart list an estimated release date in the third week of March.

The Black variant of the Xperia ZL can be pre-booked for Rs. 35,990. The site is also giving an exclusive pre-order offer whereby users can get a 16GB Sandisk memory card.

The Sony Xperia Z (SO-02E) is already available in Japan for 80,430 Yen sans contract and the Xperia ZL is also expected to hit retail shelves in Germany by April 2013. The smartphone will be carrying a price tag of 599.99 euros.

The Xperia Z and ZL smartphones are the company's latest flagship offerings that were announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013. Both Sony smartphones come with a 5-inch fullHD display running on Android 4.1, a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm S4 Pro processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The smartphones also come with 13MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, a microSD card slot and support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC as well.

The difference in price could be attributed to certain differences between the phones.

The Xperia Z is IP55 and IP57 certified, making it water and dust resistant, features a full glass exterior, is 7.9mm thin weighing 149 grams and has a 2,330mAh battery . The rear of the Xperia ZL is plasticky, is slightly thicker at 9.8mm and comes with a 2,300mAh battery.
