Sony eyes Rs. 250 crore Xperia sales in Andhra




Sony India today said it is targetting Xperia sales of Rs. 250 crore in Andhra Pradesh during 2013-14, as it plans to be among the top three smartphone brands in the country.

"We are very serious about Xperia... our objective is to be one of the top three smartphone company,"

Sony India Mobile Division Head (Sales and Marketing) Sachin Thapar told reporters here.

Launching its feature packed flagship smartphone, Sony Xperia Z here, he said Sony targets sales of Rs. 250 crore in Andhra Pradesh region and has allocated a budget of Rs. 21 crore to promote Xperia throughout the coming fiscal year.

Andhra Pradesh is expected to contribute seven per cent to the overall Xperia sales in India and the company plans to increase channel coverage from 350 to 550 outlets, he said.

"We want to be the real challenger and be one of the strong contenders and plan to establish within the top three of the smartphone segment," Thapar added.

It is start of the journey to triple the Xperia sales in India to Rs. 3,500 crore in FY 13, Thapar said, adding that they have allocated Rs. 300 crore for the marketing of Xperia range of mobile phones.

He said the Xperia Tablet Z will be available in the first week of May in India, which he said is world's slimmest LTE tablet featuring a 10.1 HD Reality Display, powered by mobile Bravia Engine 2 that is both water and dust resistant.
