JAPANESE PHONE MAKER Sony added yet another member to its affordable Xperia lineup today, the Xperia E with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Looking to steal the limelight from rival Nokia, which announced the Lumia 620 today, Sony unveiled the Xperia E ahead of its release early next year.
The affordable Sony Xperia E comes with a 3.5in 480x320 touchscreen, a 1GHz single-core processor and Google's Android 4.1 Jelly Bean mobile operating system. We're not quite sure how well Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will work on a phone with such low specifications, but Sony seems to be quite pleased with it.
Calum MacDougall, director of Xperia Marketing at Sony said, "Consumers looking to take their first steps into the world of Xperia smartphones would be well advised to look at Xperia E or Xperia E dual.
"They are perfect for those seeking affordable access to the quality and functionality more traditionally associated with high-end Android smartphones."
The handset also comes with a 1,500mAh battery, DLNA connectivity, HD Voice and Sony's Xloud audio technology. We're still awaiting the handset's full specifications.
The Sony Xperia E will be available in black, white and pink when it is launched in the first quarter of 2013. It will also be available in a dual-SIM version, although this is unlikely to come to the UK
